A new layer of protection for your payments

Confirmation of Payee is an industry-wide security check designed to reduce the risk of mistaken payments and scams.
When you send money using a BSB and account number, Confirmation of Payee checks the account name, BSB, and account number you’ve entered against the details held by the recipient’s bank—and shows you a match outcome. This gives you confidence that your money is going where you intend it to.
Why it matters

More confidence
Gives you more control and confidence when sending money.

Added security
Adds a layer of protection to help safeguard your money – helping you avoid scams and mistaken payments.

Industry-wide initiative
An initiative of Australian Payments Plus (AP+), the organisation behind trusted services like BPAY®, Osko®, PayID®, PayTo®, and eftpos®.
How it works
When making a payment
You’ll see one of three match outcomes:
![]() |
The account details you entered match the bank records of the intended recipient, and the recipient's name will be displayed. |
![]() |
The account details you entered closely match the bank records of the intended recipient, and the recipient's name will be displayed. |
![]() |
The account details you entered do not match the bank records of the intended recipient. The recipient's name will not be displayed unless it is a business or government organisation. |
You can then decide whether to proceed, check the details again, or cancel the payment.
When receiving payments, share the right details
To help ensure payments reach you without delays, share your account name, BSB, and account number exactly as recorded by your bank. You can find these details in Online Banking.
Opting out
If you prefer not to have your account name displayed to payers, you may request to opt out in certain circumstances – eligible customers may request to opt out of having their account name and match outcome displayed in Confirmation of Payee results. This means your account name and match outcome won’t be shown, which may affect whether the payer proceeds with the payment.
To understand the opt-out process and implications, please contact us.

Frequently Asked Questions
Confirmation of Payee is an industry-wide service that adds a layer of protection for payments to a BSB and account number. It checks the account name, BSB and account number you’ve entered against the details held by the recipient’s bank and lets you know whether it’s a match. This can help you make informed decisions before you make a payment, reducing the risk of scams and mistaken payments.
Confirmation of Payee is an initiative of Australian Payments Plus, the same organisation that also provides trusted payment services like BPAY®, Osko®, eftpos®, PayID® and PayTo®.
When you make a payment to a BSB and account number, Confirmation of Payee checks the details you enter against the account name, BSB and account number held by the recipient’s bank and gives you a match outcome. That helps you decide what you want to do next – and gives you more confidence that the money you’re paying is going where you intend it to.
- Account match - The details you’ve entered match the recipient’s bank records for the intended recipient. That’s a good sign your money is going where you intend it to.
- Close match - The details are similar but not exact. We'll show you the actual account name so you can check if it’s just a small typo or something that needs a closer look to ensure your money is going where you intend it to.
- No match – The details you entered don’t match the recipient’s bank records. It could mean you’re about to pay the wrong person or business, or the account name is different to what you expected. It’s best to double-check before going ahead with the payment.
Match outcomes won’t tell you if a payment is a scam. If you’re feeling unsure, pressured, or don’t recognise the person you’re paying, take a moment to check before you go ahead. Stay safe and learn more at Stay Scam Smart – MyState Bank.
Yes. Confirmation of Payee will never stop you from completing a payment. We encourage you to be scam aware and always take steps to make sure you know who you are paying, as scams or mistaken payments may be difficult to retrieve.
If you want to get paid without any confusion or potential delays, you should provide the account name, BSB, and account number exactly as recorded by your bank. This includes using the correct spelling and any middle names that form part of your account name. If you’re uncertain, it’s best to check these details with us. This is also relevant for businesses whose account name may differ from their trading name, such as when a specific part of the business operates under a different name.
You can find your account name under the account details section of Online Banking.
Eligible customers may request to be opted-out of the Confirmation of Payee service. This means your account name and match outcome will not be displayed to payers and could impact the likelihood of the payer proceeding with the payment. To understand the opt out process and the implications, please contact our Customer Care team on 138 001 or visit your local MyState Bank branch.
The Confirmation of Payee service is managed by your financial institution. Confirmation of Payee will never contact you directly about Confirmation of Payee. That means any message from Confirmation of Payee asking you to send money or receive money is a scam.
If you believe you have been scammed, please contact us and report it to the police.
