On Friday, 10 March, Football Tasmania officially launched the 2023 MyState Bank Women’s Super League, featuring the State’s elite female players.
Players, coaches and presidents representing the six WSL sides were present, along with Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley.
The MyState Bank WSL will feature six teams in 2023 – Devonport City Strikers, Launceston United, South Hobart, Clarence Zebras, Kingborough Lions and Taroona.
The season will consist of 60 games, beginning on 17 March and running through until September, plus three finals at the conclusion of the regular season.
Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley said: “Our WSL competition goes to a six-team competition this year, losing the bye round. We will also see a two week break mid-season for our women’s program, while we celebrate the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023.
“We wish all of our teams the very best for the season ahead, and look forward to seeing them in action when the season gets underway on 17 March.”
MyState Bank CEO and General Manager Brett Morgan said MyState Bank was proud to again be the headline sponsor of the MyState Bank Women’s Super League.
“MyState Bank has supported the Women’s Super League for two seasons, and we’re very proud to again support the league in 2023,” he said.
“The game is growing and growing in popularity in Tasmania, with a more than six per cent jump in female participation in the past year, and we want to encourage even more women and girls to play.
“We share in Football Australia and Football Tasmania’s goal of 50:50 gender participation by 2027, because as a Tasmanian-based bank we’ve set and met our target of 50 per cent representation of women in leadership roles.
“With the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 coming to Australia and New Zealand in July and August this year, there’s never been a more opportune time to power-up the global spotlight and get Tasmanians involved in the world game.
“The whole MyState team looks forward to supporting each and every player, coach, official, administrator and supporter as the 2023 MyState Bank Women’s Super League kicks off for 2023 – good luck!”
