Fake social media pages impersonating MyState Bank

Impersonation scams are becoming more common across social media. Scammers set up profiles that look like they belong to a real bank, then use them to build trust and eventually ask for money or personal information.
What MyState Bank will never do
- Send you a friend request on Facebook.
- Contact you unexpectedly by direct message on any social media platform
- Ask for your passwords, PIN, secure code or account details via social media.
- Ask you to contact us.
At a glance the social media page or profile may look legitimate. The differences are small, these can include:
- Page name: an extra word, a spelling change, or characters swapped for lookalikes
- URL: a slightly different handle to the official one
- Profile: a recent creation date, a small follower count, or only a handful of posts
- Behaviour: unsolicited friend requests or direct messages, and urgency to act quickly
Contacted by a social media profile claiming to be MyState Bank?
- Don’t engage with the account or click any links it shares.
- Report the account to the platform (on Facebook: the three dots on the profile, then Report profile)
- Block the account
If you’ve already shared any banking information with an account like this, contact us straight away.
