All entries for the MyState Student Film Festival are now in the hands of the judges and the countdown has begun to the red carpet Awards Event on November 20.
The Festival, which has been held annually since 2002, celebrates the creativity and imagination of Tasmanian students, and gives young filmmakers the chance to explore hidden talent, show the world their skills, and see their creative vision on the big screen.
This year, a record 134 entries have been received from 63 schools across Tasmania.
MyState initiated the Student Film Festival to nurture and develop the full range of filmmaking skills in young Tasmanians—including planning, producing, writing, directing, editing and performing.
Now that all entries have been submitted, the expert panel of Festival judges will face the difficult task of shortlisting the entries and choosing winners in 11 award categories.
Finalist films will be screened, and winners announced at the action-packed Awards Event at the Theatre Royal on Sunday November 20, before an audience of student filmmakers, peers, VIPS and film buffs. Winning entries will be announced at the event, and will share in the $10,000 prize pool. Finalists and winning entries will also be included in the program for the prestigious BOFA (Breath of Fresh Air) Film Festival, which opens in Launceston on November 23 and runs until November 27.
Tickets for the Awards Event are free, but bookings are essential and can be made via the Festival website

The film voted by members of the public as their favourite will receive the coveted Peoples Choice award.
People's Choice Award nominations open on Friday October 28 from 6pm, and close on November 16. This year, instead of direct votes, the Award will be given to the most popular film of the Festival, which will be tracked according to the number of times a film is shared on social media via the Festival website.
To vote for your choice, head to your favourite film’s page on the site, and hit the Like, Tweet and Share buttons next to the film.
